About

Mike Abney

I am a software developer. That does not only mean programming, though love of that is what started me on this path. Over the years, in addition to programming, I have been a Business Analyst, Object Modeler, Project Manager, ScrumMaster, Application Architect, UI Designer, Conference Speaker, and People Manager. A resume is available for those interested in more details. The recommended contact path would be LinkedIn, though I can also be found on Twitter.

The Site

I’ve set up this site as a blog and collection of notes. The notes are generally how-tos for simple things like how to output logs from Kubernetes pods. They will be more or less organized depending on how much I use them or the relative importance they have. For anything particularly interesting or surprising, a blog article will be posted about it, possibly linking to the relevant note or notes.

Design

Many themes were toyed with, but most of this ended up being from scratch. After starting on Jekyll (since Ruby is a comfort zone), it was found to lack desired features. After a bit of research, Hugo was chosen. The hope is to eventually release this as a theme, but that may depend on any number of other things falling into place to make the time available.

The color scheme is based on Ethan Schoonover’s Solarized. Adjustments have been made to increase the contrast for better WCAG compliance. The site gets tested from time to time using Chrome’s Lighthouse tool and WAVE.
